Amazon Kindle Fire tablet to sell for $199
The Fire will connect to the Internet via WiFi, but does not feature 3G connectivity, it is also missing an onboard camera or microphone.
Amazon Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos also unveiled the Kindle Touch, an e-reader with no buttons and a touch screen starting at $99, along with a basic Kindle e-reader at a new price of $79.
The Fire runs a version of Google Inc.’s Android software, used by other iPad wannabes, and will have access to applications through Amazon's Android store. Unlike the iPad, the Fire doesn't need to be backed up on a PC. Instead, it backs up its contents wirelessly on Amazon's servers.
At $199, Amazon is likely subsidizing the cost of the tablet, on the expectation that it will make the money back when owners buy things through the tablet. That might allow the company to undercut Apple on price, something other manufacturers have had a hard time doing. Apple's profit margin on the iPad, which starts at $499, is lower than it is for many of its other products, particularly the iPhone.

Obviously, S1 was never going to be the name of the tablet; it was just a codename given to the device to keep the name under wraps. Bionic Droid
The rumor of the day is relative to Bionic Droid smartphone that, so distant, is yet a great mystery, but whether the thinking of Motorola was to carry on concealing the same, it looks that e-commerce location Amazon spoiled the North American game.
Recently the location introduced twain new accessories for the Motorola smartphone Droid Bionic, a car holder and one for the desktop. Since the picture seems on both the smartphone! Incredible is not it?
To date, there is no piece of information approximately the arrival of Droid Bionic market, but the accessories can now that be accessed on the Amazon location is that there, you can register your email to receive a message when they are accessible to sale.
New Nokia 500
This is another unit of the series ‘accessible’ that Nokia is launching this year, before starting it all together to Windows Phone. The Nokia 500 comes with the operating system Symbian Anna, Which is not so new, a 3.2 inch display with 640 x 360 pixels and 16:9 widescreen aspect ratios. The unit focuses on young people and it comes with three different covers that can be exchanged.
The device has a design very similar to other recent releases, which practically does not indicate anything new. Your processor should be highlighted, and 1GHz. The unit even comes with access to Ovi Maps, which will soon be discontinued by the company. Your camera is 5 megapixels but does not capture video in high quality, maximizing only 640 x 480 pixels and 15 fps.
The device is actually more interesting for those who do not take into account new and powerful equipment. It costs about $ 240.
Nokia N9 – Just a swipe away
The Nokia N9 features a uni-body design, it has a 3.9” AMOLED display – there are no buttons, the phones body is made from polycarbonate material, the glass is curved, the colors are powerful and intense and it is the best we have seen so far from Nokia.
I am sure you are asking why the Nokia N9’s glass is curved. Nokia said the new glass shape allows applications to appear clean and bright and it is very easy to use. Just swipe your finger across the screen and you are at the home view. The phone comes with an 8MP Carl Zeiss camera with touch to focus, free navigation, free maps and fast browsing, as it is using latest mobile browser technology. The phones colors please everybody – black, cyan and magenta.
Nokia N9 Detailed Specifications:
Operating System: MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan
Processor: ARM Cortex A8, 1 Ghz.
Screen: 3.9 inch AMOLED
Camera: 8 MP Carl Zeiss
Memory: 16 and 64 GB
Body material: Polycarbonate
Available Colors: Black, magenta and cyan
The price starts from 660 $ / 749 $ (for 16GB / 64GB version). It seems that Nokia is gaining and wants to overcome the “touch revolution” that Apple created.
Motorola Xoom
Features
The Motorola Xoom belongs to the first generation of Android tablets where all of the specs are more or less identical. It’s got the same dual-core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, front and rear cameras and 10.1″ 1280×800 display as all the others, along with 32GB of internal storage. It’s all getting a bit boring, to be honest, but there are a few minor differences that set it apart. While you can’t swing a dead TouchPad these days without hitting yet another Honeycomb tablet, there aren’t too many that are 3G-enabled like the Xoom. And if you insist on comparing it to the iPad, both the Wi-Fi and 3G flavours of the Xoom have GPS built-in, whereas only the more expensive 3G version of the iPad has this.
The Xoom originally shipped with Android Honeycomb 3.0, but the latest over-the-air software update boosts this to 3.1. It’s not the latest version of Honeycomb, which is 3.2, but the difference between those two versions is negligible from what we can gather. The bigger difference is between 3.0 and 3.1, which enables the missing microSD card support, adds resizable widgets on the homescreen, additional apps in the multi-tasking panel, USB support for keyboards, digital cameras and other input devices, and updates to the core set of apps.
When arguing the merits of a Honeycomb tablet over the iPad, the latter’s lack of microSD card slot, USB, built-in HDMI and Flash support are typically the main advantages brought up. The Xoom offers all four of these, but the USB implementation is a bit spotty. You’ll need to track down a micro-USB adapter to turn the built-in slot into full USB, and even if you manage to find an adapter (your best bet is eBay), it only works for wired keyboards and game controllers. Honeycomb does support USB host for transferring files from flash drives, digital cameras and memory card readers, so we’re not quite sure why Motorola has left this functionality off the menu.

TOSHIBA AT200
The iPad 2 is facing some serious competition these days. As the consumer market warms up to the potential of tablet media, there is certainly no shortage of options for us to choose from. And we can certainly thank Android and Apple for that. That said, there is little operationally, to distinguish one android from the other right now, which is where Toshiba’s AT200 can take the moral high ground because it is the lightest and thinnest 10.1 inch tablet on the market.
With a depth of just 7.7mm and weighing in at meagre 558grams the AT200 is a highly portable product and one that will be very popular with anyone on the go particularly if Toshiba prices it competitively.
The tablet runs Android Honeycomb version 3.2 which is great as far as an operating system is concerned, the drawback is that unlike Apple’s strict App Store quality control, Android’s open source format attracts many more bad apps as there are good ones and with over 250,000 to choose from you’ll be doing a lot of sifting. The spec however is impressive. There’s a front and back HD camera and a micro HDMI port to hook it up to the telly, a 10.1inch capacitive LED screen, GPS, wifi, Bluetooth, 1 gig of DDR2 RAM and a 1.2 ghz TI OMAP 4430 CPU. The current model has 16 and 32 gig versions, but a 64 gig model and 3G is promised early next year.
So, thin is good. It’s good because the battery life is certainly not starved, you get a full eight hours and it’ll pop inside your case with a minimum of fuss. Whether or not it stacks up against the Galaxy will have to be seen. At the end of the day it will be the price that will determine that one.

TWO NEW MANGO HANDSETS FOR HTC
The Asian manufacturer HTC has launched two new SmartPhones which are thought to be the first to run Mango, Microsoft’s latest WP7 platform. The devices are called Radar and Titan. The two handsets were announced in Berlin, London, Paris and Madrid where HTC held a series of what it called consumer meet-ups.
Despite problems selling previous WP7 handsets, Microsoft believes they are onto to a winner with this particular update. Many in the mobile phone world agree, although it will probably be another 12 months before this theory is fully tested.
In the meantime, what are the specifications of these two new gadgets?
Both SmartPhones will apparently feature improved cameras and the ability to shoot video. The Titan is said to feature a 4.7 inch display surrounded by a 9.9mm aluminium case, while the Radar is thought to possess a slightly smaller screen size at 3.8 inches. Titan and Radar should be available from October this year.
Other than this information, nothing else is known at this stage.
What is different with Mango?
Apparently one of the main differences between this update and previous versions is improved functionality with regards to social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter. But perhaps more importantly is improved access to Microsoft Office, and the ability for it to handle multiple email accounts; which will delight those users who like to use their SmartPhone as a kind of mini office. Handling multiple emails though is not new to the SmartPhone world since it is actually one of the hallmarks of the BlackBerry. Other improved features of Mango include a faster searching and browsing experience.
Sony to start PS Vita global rollout
Sony Corp will launch its new PlayStation Vita handheld games device on December 17 in Japan, kicking off a global rollout, and insisted it will not reduce the price in the face of discounting by rival Nintendo.
Sony has been criticized for setting the PS Vita's price too high for the mass market but some analysts say the gadget will likely appeal chiefly to hardcore gamers, who are generally willing to spend more.
Hiroshi Kawano, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, presented the domestic launch plans to reporters a day ahead of the annual Tokyo Game Show.
The PS Vita, first unveiled in Tokyo in January, is expected to go on sale in the United States and Europe in early 2012, but exact dates have yet to be revealed.
Sony said it will launch 26 software titles along with the PS Vita on December 17 and Japan's biggest mobile carrier, NTT Docomo, will provide prepaid 3G plans for PS Vita users.
Rival Nintendo slashed prices for its own portable games device by up to 40 percent to 15,000 yen ($NZ238) last month after sales sagged, and unveiled a raft of new software on Tuesday in a bid to revive interest.
But investors say smartphones and tablets have taken a big bite out of demand for dedicated portable games devices by providing cheaper software and multiple functions.
Sony said in August it saw no need to reduce the price of the PS Vita from the announced figure of 24,980 yen ($NZ397) for a Wi-fi only model and 29,980 yen ($NZ477) for a 3G plus Wi-fi version.
But the company last month cut the price of its PlayStation 3 gaming console by one-fifth to regain lost ground against rival Microsoft, which makes the Xbox
Waterstones use kindle to ignite eReader battle
There’s going to be a new tough new competitor in the e-reading war as of next year. The e-reading thing IS a war isn’t it? Only with fewer deaths, obviously.
Anyway, we’re getting sidetracked already. The hot news is that Amazon’s wildly popular Kindle reader will be challenged by a new device, to be launched by Waterstones in early 2012.
Although the Kindle is by far and away the global market leader, in the US it has faced some competition from the Nook, a reader that was developed by book chain Barnes & Noble. They allow customers to visit their stores with their Nooks and get an hour of free reading every day. No doubt enjoyed with some coffee and a cupcake. Delightful.
If Waterstones provide a similar ‘try before you buy’ service, it could be a shot in the arm for the company, luring hardcore readers in to their stores armed with their e-reading gadgets for a session of loafing about and cyberbrowsing.
The book chain’s boss, James Daunt, said: We in Waterstone's need to offer you a digital reader which is at least as good, and preferably substantially better, than that of our internet rival, and you will have a much better buying experience purchasing your books through us.”
