Coby Starts Shipping of Cheap Android ICS Tablets

American low-end electronics maker Coby has begun shipping several of its Android ICS 4.0 tablets that were first introduced earlier this year at CES. They’re all packing the same basic specs, which we’ll get to in a moment, each and every one of them is running Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box – more than we can say for almost every new android device introduced this year. In total there are 6 to choose from range in size from 7-inch capacitive multitouch displays up to 10-inch in size with a resolution of 1280 x 800. All of the tablets mentioned above will be rocking a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage on the three largest models, 4GB on the 7-inch and 8-inch devices, MicroSD card expansion, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, and a camera of unknown megapixels. The MID7042 is now available for $179, while the MID9742 retails for $279. The company is also expected to offer eight-, nine-, and 10-inch models later this spring. At present only the MID7042 and MID1042 are listed as “for sale” on Coby’s website. Though, they aren’t exactly the most responsive Android tablets on the market. But they’re some of the cheapest.
