Ultra-Flexible Battery Could Power Smart Clothes

A new flexible lithium-ion battery from Panasonic could find its way into wearable devices and ultra-thin smartphones.

According to the company, the new battery surpasses the flexibility standards for credit cards, without damage. The battery’s resilience lies in its stacked electrode construction, which enables it to remain undamaged and functional even after being repeatedly bent or twisted. At only 0.022 inches thick, the battery is ideal for use in smart clothing or card devices, and is also safer than conventional lithium-ion batteries.
